V nadaljevanju objavljamo celotno pismo predsednika SDS Janeza Janše predsedniku Evropske komisije Junckerju.President of the European Commission
Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker

Dear Jean-Claude,
I hope this letter finds you well. Last time we met, just a couple of days before May 2014 European elections, we had still been fighting for our political family and you as our candidate to prevail. You decided not to participate directly in election campaign in Slovenia, but the SDS, my party, won the elections by a large margin. The leading governmental party, led by Prime Minister Mrs. Alenka Bratušek, was utterly defeated. All together, we elected 5 of 8 Slovenian MEP from the EPP, which is the best result for our political family throughout the EU. A logical outcome was nominating the winner of the EU elections in Slovenia, former minister for education Dr. Milan Zver as our candidate for a member of next EU Commission.Looking at the prognosis and sensing the coming defeat at the EU elections, Slovenian left, decisively influenced by the neo-communist deep state dismantled its own government after merely one year in power and triggered the second successive early national elections, called for July 13th 2014. Mrs. Alenka Bratušek played a crucial role in this project and was, as a reward, promised to be nominated for an EU Commissioner from Slovenia. The next step they undertook was creating a supposedly new political party, merely five weeks before the elections. They formed a leftist party without a reliable program and without names with the exception of its leader, Mr. Miro Cerar, son of a former State Prosecutor General. The party was named after him: A Party of Miro Cerar, SMC.Despite huge media and financial backing for SMC from the deep state, it was clear that SDS would, with its good pro-European program and skilled team for the government, very likely repeat a victory from EU elections. So, merely two days after we proposed a candidate list to the State Electoral Commission, they sent me to prison and beheaded my party at the very beginning of the election campaign. You know the main outlook of the Patria case, which has been performed against me and SDS from 2008; and I will not repeat details from this shameful abuse of the judicial power for destroying a political opponent. The EPP political assembly and EPP group in the EP reacted twice on this case with clear statements. EPP president Joseph Daul, EPP V.P. Anca Boagiu and president of the Martens Center for European Studies Mr. Mikulas Dzurinda visited Slovenia to support us.In these illegitimate circumstances for election campaign, the SMC ghost party won the elections. SDS came second and the leading governmental party of Mrs. Bratušek was totally defeated. A turnout was historically low for Slovenia; merely 51% of voters come to vote. A large number of our potential voters, especially in less developed part of the county, stayed at home, disappointed and in fear that old communist repression returned yet again to Slovenia. After the elections, Mrs. Bratušek, despite being defeated twice within two months, nominated herself for EU commissioner, being included in a proposal of three candidates from Slovenia. A big surprise came when her nomination got your strong support. At first, there were rumors, not believed by anybody in Slovenia. Then, it became official news. Jean-Claude Juncker is proposing, according to the public opinion, by far the worst PM in Slovenian history, not only for EU commissioner, but for the Vice President of the Commission. In difficult times for us when we expected your support we got a knife in the back. There are hundreds of her anti-European statements given for Slovenian media from 2012 to 2014. Her EU and national elections campaign red line was: “I have defended Slovenia against the EU. My government defeated Brussels.” In reality, her government defeated Slovenian future by increasing our public debt to historical level. Slovenian voters recognized this despite huge media propaganda, only you turned a blind eye. If Mrs. Bratušek is going to stay a part of your proposal during hearings in the EP, our MEPs will have no other option than to address and challenge you and your credibility with her anti-European attitude which is very easy to prove. The core of the Slovenian pro-European voting body is deeply injured by your proposal. Almost nobody in Slovenia supports Mrs. Bratušek for EU Commission. Vast majority considers her self-candidacy and your backing as an insult. People who have believed in the EU project since the beginning are publicly claiming they will not vote at the EU elections any more. Surely they will not vote again for the EPP, being represented by you and me in their eyes. There are less and less EU flags on public places and public rallies.Dear Jean-Claude, we all admired you and your struggle for Europe by fighting for integrity of Eurozone and the future of Euro during the last financial crisis. You personally made a difference, a decisive one. A single European currency is an important, very important project for the European future. But the core values, the very foundations of the European Union, the first dreams of the EU founding fathers; they are even more important.I am coming from former communist state, where the EU or Western Europe, simply west, was a dream, a dream of a safe, free and prosperous future. We were not born into wealth and freedom; we had to fight for human values, human dignity, free elections and democracy. We suffered, but we prevailed. At least, it had looked so until 2008.Today, we know and we clearly see that Europe is not yet whole and free. Look at Ukraine; look at Slovenia, Romania, Bulgaria… If we forget our core values at this decisive time for our continent, European people and European nations will find themselves in turmoil, never seen in our known history.I am writing you this letter from Slovenian prison called Puščava (a desert). Third time in my life the same people with the same political background sentenced me on the basis of false accusations without any evidence; this last time in the country, which has been a member of the EU for more than 10 years. Last month my young sons, Jakob and Crtomir, celebrated 1st and 3rd birthdays; unfortunately without me.This is not Slovenia we dreamed of, suffered and struggled for; and it is certainly not the EU we wanted to join in 2004. I have never imagined that individuals who fought against European values and who have been destroying our future will be supported by our European friends. But we will never surrender. Slovenian Democratic Party remained strong and united political force despite huge efforts to destroy it by all means. A farce called Patria is coming to an end despite all kinds of delays and excuses of the Slovenian Supreme Court. Within next months it will be over and I am looking forward to meeting you again. But I do not imagine how any Slovenian government will sincerely cooperate with a new Commission if Mrs. Bratušek is a part of it.Dear Jean-Claude, I kindly ask you to reconsider your proposal again. You can easily remove the current Slovenian candidate from it, because she is without support of a new Slovenian government as well. They will willingly propose a new candidate and any possible nomination could not be worse. Please, do not make a position of sincere pro-European forces in Slovenia unbearable.

Best regards,

Desert, 9.9.2014
Janez Janša
